“In half term I went on a snow race camp with my club Sandown Park Ski Race Club. We went to Bormio, Italy to do the English Alpine Ski Championships. There were about 47 children on the camp and it was really good fun. I didn’t sleep in the club hotel but a lot of my friends did. Although I spent a lot of time with my friends in the hotel I slept with my Mummy and Daddy at another hotel near the ski lift. We had to meet every evening in the club hotel and have ski technique training with our instructors and learn how to wax and edge our skis.
I started training immediately when we arrived with some very good Swiss ski instructors. They were really good fun and taught us to do lots of big jumps. After 3 days we started to train for our 2 races. Our first race was ‘kombi’ race which included gates, jumps and downhill. We had 2 runs and I was 5th in Great Britain for the U10 girls and got a place on the podium and was given a trophy and a ski voucher. Our second race was bigger and it was called GS (giant slalom). I was the 1st person to go out of 94 children and I was really nervous. The slope was so steep as it was the Olympic downhill course and I could hardly hold myself at the gate. There were 45 gates to go around and it was hard as it was very icy. I did 2 runs and I came 3rd for Great Britain, 1st in England and 1st for Sandown in U10 girls. I was really pleased as it was another podium place and I got another trophy and another ski voucher.”
Many, many congratulations to Allegra.
