sports1.jpgOur aim is that all girls should enjoy their Physical Education and experience a wide variety of activities. We hope that the girls will establish habits of participation in, and an understanding of, the benefits of physical activity, fairplay and sportsmanship which will last a lifetime.

All children in Little Bramley and Reception work towards the British Amateur Gymnastic Association awards.  They use the large gymnastic apparatus once a week. In addition, dance and simple games and ball skills are introduced. Both year groups have their Sports Day in the Summer Term, followed by a family picnic in the Early Years garden.

In Year 1 and Year 2, the British Amateur Gymnastics Awards for 5-11 years are introduced, in addition to the floor and large apparatus work. They continue to work on dance and more advanced games and ball skills, using more complex equipment, are introduced. These also include aspects of working with others.

From Lowers to Tops more advanced skills are learnt and good teamwork encouraged. In the Autumn and Winter Terms pop lacrosse, hockey and netball are played. All girls participate in a varied dance syllabus and enjoy performing set dances in costume to their parents. The girls also work towards the All England Netball Association awards and the British Gymnastics awards. Bramley enter two Gymnastics events in the Spring Term for selected girls. In the Summer Term, rounders and tennis are played and in athletics all girls work towards the English Schools Athletic Award scheme, which encourages personal achievement in a wide variety of track and field events.

There are opportunities for girls in Lowers, Middles, Uppers and Tops to take part in netball, hockey, pop lacrosse, cross country, athletics, tennis and rounders matches. Girls from Years 1 to Tops participate in the athletics on Sports Day and also take part in House team events in netball, pop lacrosse, cross country, gymnastics, rounders and tennis. In addition to the taught PE curriculum, further opportunities are provided for the girls to extend their sporting prowess and begin new sports. Netball, rounders and athletics training are provided fo girls in Year 1 to Tops. Specialist sports coaches provide after-school activities including Ballet, Tap, Yoga, Tennis, Gymnastics and Kuk Sool Won (a Korean martial arts system).
